Captain Satish Sharma, a veteran Congress leader and a special friend of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, has gone on his last journey and, paying his respects to his father’s special friend, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi shouldered the body barefoot. Today the funeral of Captain Satish Sharma took place in Delhi.

The funeral of Congress leader Captain Satish Sharma took place in Delhi on Friday. On this occasion, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi shouldered the body of Captain Satish Sharma. Congress leader Captain Satish Sharma was suffering from cancer and died in Goa on Wednesday. Many leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, paid tribute to Satish Sharmar at Dayanand Mukti Dham.

Capton Satish Sharma was considered close to the Gandhi family. Captain Sharma was Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas from 1993 to 1996 in Narasimha Rao’s government. Born on October 11, 1947 in Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh, Captain Sharma represented the Lok Sabha from Amethi after the demise of Rajiv Gandhi in 1991.

Captain Satish Sharma was a commercial pilot by profession. Captain Satish Sharma represented Rae Bareli and Amethi constituencies and was elected a three-time Lok Sabha member. Satish Sharma also became a three-time Rajya Sabha member and represented Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh.

After the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi in 1991, Satish Sharma was fielded from Amethi and won a record from there. In 1996, he again became the MP of Amethi but lost to Sanjay Singh in 1998. In 2004, due to Rahul Gandhi contesting from Amethi, he gave up that seat and contested from Sultanpur. However, Satish Sharma lost here too.
