Sunderlal Bahuguna: Chipko movement leader Sunderlal Bahuguna passed away of Corona

Chipko Movement Leader: Leading environmentalist and Chipko activist Sunderlal is no more. Sunderlal Bahuguna died at the age of 94, suffering from the corona. He had a corona infection a few days ago. Rishikesh was admitted to AIIMS on May 8 due to respiratory problems. He is already suffering from diabetes and pneumonia and has recovered from the corona. He breathed his last on Friday while receiving treatment in Ikram.

Evergreen trees and Environment means a lot of love for Sunderlal Bahuguna. That is why there have been many movements against deforestation in the Himalayas. He launched the Chipko movement in a way that made everyone understand the environment. The movement gained worldwide attention in the 1970s. Sunderlal Bahuguna has been leading the anti-Tehri dam movement since 1980. The Government of India recognizes its services to the environment. Honored with the Padma Shri Award in 1981. In 2009, she was also awarded the Padma Vibhushan by Sunderlal Bahuguna.
