Devshayani Ekadashi 2023: 30+ WhatsApp Status Video: Devshayani Ekadashi, also known as Ashadi Ekadashi, is an important Hindu festival celebrated in the month of Ashadha (June/July). It falls on the eleventh day (Ekadashi) of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) of the Hindu lunar month.
Devshayani Ekadashi marks the beginning of the Chaturmas, a four-month period considered auspicious for spiritual practices and penance. It is believed that Lord Vishnu goes into a deep sleep (Shayana) on this day, resting on the cosmic serpent Shesha in the Kshirasagara (ocean of milk). The period of Lord Vishnu’s slumber is known as the “Chaturmas.”
Devotees observe fasts and offer prayers to Lord Vishnu on this day, seeking his blessings and protection. They visit Vishnu temples, sing devotional hymns, and recite the Vishnu Sahasranama (thousand names of Lord Vishnu). Devotees believe that observing the fast and performing these rituals on Devshayani Ekadashi can wash away sins and bring spiritual progress.
The festival holds great significance in Vaishnavism and is celebrated with enthusiasm in various parts of India. In Pandharpur, Maharashtra, a grand procession known as the Wari takes place, where devotees walk to the Vitthal Rukmini Temple, singing bhajans and offering prayers.
Devshayani Ekadashi is an occasion for devotees to reflect on the importance of spirituality, devotion, and righteousness in their lives. It is a time to seek the blessings of Lord Vishnu and strengthen the bond of faith and love with the divine.
