Guru Amardas Ji is believed to be the third Guru out of the ten Gurus of Sikhism. On 26 March 1552, at the age of 73, he became the third Guru of the Sikhs. Before becoming Sikh, Amardas ji followed the Vaishnava tradition of Hinduism. In fact, before adopting Sikhism, he heard a ‘Shabad’ composed by Guru Nanak Dev Ji from his nephew’s wife Bibi Amro. On hearing this, he was so impressed that the daughter-in-law, Bibi Amro, immediately reached the Guru’s feet by asking for the address of Guru Angad Dev Ji. Bibi Amro was the daughter of Guru Angad, who was the second Guru of the Sikhs. Before the death of Guru Angadji in the year 1552, he chose Amardas ji as the third Guru of the Sikhs.
