England can surprise India, don’t take it lightly: Dilip Doshi

Former India Test spinner Dilip Doshi said on Thursday that the England cricket team that visited India is capable of surprising the hosts. During a conversation with former India batsman David Gower and London-based veteran broadcaster and writer Ashish Ray, Doshi said, India will start as contenders but the English team has the potential to surprise them. To think of India as contenders can only be based on negotiation as the current English team is quite balanced.

Doshi said that the England team led by Joe Root are full of confidence after the 2–0 Test series victory in Sri Lanka. Doshi said, to begin with, any pundit will think that India has domestic advantage and your team is balanced. Also, you have players in reserve who cannot come in this current team because regular players are coming back. ” The first two Tests will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The first test starts on February 5.

Doshi, who played 33 Tests and 15 ODIs for India between 1979–1983, also said that he was also surprised to see England not with his best team for this series as the series was held at his World Test Championship (WTC) Will clear the way for the final.

The final of the World Test Championship is to be played in June. New Zealand has already reached the final. England and India also have a chance to go to the finals. Host India need to beat England at least 2–0 to qualify for the final. However, India’s 1-0 win in the upcoming series could pave the way for Australia to go to the finals. New Zealand were named in the final of the WTC after Cricket Australia decided to postpone their tour of South Africa.
