The series is crucial for the Indian team to reach the final of the ICC World Test Championship. Team India had to win the second Test in any case to stay in the race for the championship final. If India lose, they will be eliminated from the race for the championship final.

In the first Test, captain Joe Root’s brilliant double century helped England win by 227 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The bowlers were also disappointed with the Indian batsmen in the first Test in Chennai.

England are number one in the World Test Championship standings. The New Zealand team has already reached the final. They entered the final by defeating West Indies and Pakistan. After winning the first Test against India, England has secured the first position with 70.2 points.

England had to win the series 3-1, 3-0 or 4-0 against India if they were to reach the final. India’s defeat in the first Test has given Australia a chance to reach the final. Even if the series ends in a 1-1 or 2-2 draw or England wins 2-1, Australia has a chance to reach the final.

To reach the final, India had to win the series 2-1 or 3-1 against England. India ranks fourth with 68.2 percent.
