MI vs CSK Preview: Desperate to get their ups and downs on track, defending champions Mumbai Indians will try to halt the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) victory campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match to be held here on Saturday.

CSK, which failed to make it to the playoffs in the tournament played in the UAE last year, has come into the fray this time with changed intentions and has won 5 consecutive matches after losing the first match. This leads the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team to the top of the table with 10 points.

The performance of Mumbai Indians has been volatile so far. They have won only three out of six matches but a seven-wicket win against Rajasthan Royals in the last match played at Ferozeshah Kotla would have boosted the morale of the team.

But now he faces CSK doing well in every department. Dhoni’s team made a good start to the Delhi stage like Mumbai and won against Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets. The outcome of this match will largely depend on the top-order performance of both teams. Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma got off to a good start but the hitman, who specializes in making big scores, is yet to show his skill in the current IPL.

The good news for Mumbai is that not only did opener Quinton de Kock return to form in the last match, but his middle-order batsmen, especially Krunal Pandya, also showed a sense of rhythm. Suryakumar Yadav will have to convert his good start into a big score while Kieron Pollard also needs to maintain his aggression. It remains to be seen whether Ishaan Kishan gets a place in the playing XI or not.

If Mumbai needs to stop Chennai’s winning campaign, they will have to show their best skills against the disciplined bowling of bowlers like Deepak Chahar, Sam Curran, and Ravindra Jadeja. Chennai’s middle-order has not been tested yet as Faf Duplessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad played a key role in the victory, giving the team a great start in the last few matches. It will be a challenge for both of them to maintain their best form in front of Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah. Bolt and Bumrah have also proved effective in the death overs.

On the slow pitch of Kotla, the role of leg-spinner Rahul Chahar also becomes important. He has taken 11 wickets so far. They need support from Krunal and Jayant Yadav from the other end. Chennai will be hoping for a good start again with Duplessis (270 runs) and Gaikwad (192 runs). Moin Ali (148 runs) has played a good role in the middle order. Suresh Raina’s presence has strengthened his middle order while Jadeja is doing full justice to his role in the lower order. Jadeja is also doing well in bowling and he can put Mumbai batsmen in trouble.
