Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has issued new guidelines for social media at a press conference yesterday. It has issued top 10 guidelines, one of which is threatening to shut down WhatsApp in India. The central government has said that if any user posts a message on social media, the company should investigate the person who sent the message, but WhatsApp says that it is outside the rules and the company does not do so.

WhatsApp “Because of end-to-end encryption, we can’t know who sent the message and from where,” he said. Earlier, a similar demand was made by the central government. But, this time it is not a demand. There is a direct guideline. If WhatsApp does not follow these guidelines, it will be clear in three months what action the central government will take, whether to ban WhatsApp in India.
WhatsApp has clarified that the company cannot get the information.

WhatsApp-owned company Facebook has issued a statement regarding the new guidelines. The company said that the guidelines issued by the Government of India. We are studying it. Facebook also said that we are always committed to the safety and security of our users. Facebook will continue to work digitally in India.
