Vijay Diwas 2021 Date, History, Significance, Importance, Activities, and More: Vijay Diwas is an annual celebration in the country. On this day in 1999, the Indian Army won Kargir against Pakistan. In this 60-day war on the Kargil hills in Ladakh, the Indian Army had driven the neighboring country’s army from this area.


Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year in India on 16 December. The war between India and Pakistan started on 3 December 1971, which lasted for 13 days and officially ended on 16 December.

Captain Batra had given martyrdom at the age of 24 while fighting Pakistan during the Kargil War in 1999.

The significance of celebrating Vijay Diwas is such that on 16 December 1971, India won the war against Pakistan after 13 days of fighting. The Chief of the Pakistani Army, General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, surrendered to the combined forces of the Indian Army and Bangladesh’s Mukti Bahini along with 93,000 Pakistani soldiers.


Every year on 16 December, civilians, senior officers, students, and war veterans lay wreaths and remember the sacrifices of the soldiers. This day was celebrated for the independence of Bangladesh from Pakistan. The end of the war resulted in the unilateral and unconditional surrender of the Pakistani army and the subsequent secession of East Pakistan into Bangladesh. Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on 16 December to honor the victory of the Indian Armed Forces over Pakistan in the 1971 war. On this day, India pays tribute to all the soldiers who defended the country.
