World Thinking Day is celebrated on February 22nd each year by members of the Girl Scouts and Girl Guides around the world. The day is an opportunity for girls to come together to think about and celebrate the global sisterhood of these organizations, as well as to raise awareness and support for issues affecting girls and women worldwide.
The day was first established in 1926, when a group of Girl Guides decided to create a special day to honor the birthday of Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the scouting movement, and his wife Lady Olave Baden-Powell, who was also involved in the movement. Today, World Thinking Day is celebrated by millions of Girl Scouts and Girl Guides in more than 150 countries.
Each year, World Thinking Day has a different theme, which is chosen by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. The theme for 2021 is “Peacebuilding,” which focuses on the importance of promoting peace and understanding between different cultures and communities.
On World Thinking Day, girls participate in a variety of activities that promote the theme of the year, as well as the values of the scouting movement, such as leadership, community service, and personal growth. Activities might include service projects, cultural exchanges, or discussions about global issues affecting girls and women.
In addition to celebrating the accomplishments of the Girl Scouts and Girl Guides, World Thinking Day is also an opportunity to raise awareness and support for issues affecting girls and women worldwide. This might include issues such as education, gender equality, and access to healthcare.
