History

KM Cariappa was the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. He led the Indian Army on the western frontier during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947. Cariappa was the second officer to receive the title of Field Marshal. Army Day is actually a celebration of the independence of the army, which is being celebrated all over India today. On this day, the Army Day Parade is organized at Parade Ground in Delhi. Actually, Army Day is celebrated every year on 15 January in honor of KM Cariappa. On the day of Army Day, the salute is given in all the army headquarters to all the fighters who laid down their lives while protecting the country at every step.

Significance, and Importance

Army Day marks the transfer of power from the British colonial rulers to the Indians. On this day in 1949, the command of the Indian Army was handed over from General Sir Francis Butcher to Lieutenant General KM Cariappa.

Celebration Activities

On this day, especially military parades, military exhibitions, and other official events are organized, along with salute is also given in all the army headquarters to all the same fighters who laid down their lives while protecting the country at every step. As a matter of fact, on this day a parade is held at the Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi. The pride of being an Indian can be seen in everyone on this day.
