History

Indira Gandhi, the first female Prime Minister of India, took over her term on January 24, that is why this day is celebrated as National Girl Child Day. National Girl Child Day was first started in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. Even in an educated society, many such evils take place, due to which the girl is seen as a burden, in which dowry stands at the first place. Most of the dowry transactions take place only in an educated society.

Significance, and Importance

The main objective behind this day is to highlight the inequalities faced by girls, promoting awareness including the rights of the girl child, the importance of education, health, and nutrition. Nowadays gender discrimination is also a big problem that girls or women have to face throughout their life. The main objective of celebrating National Girl Child Day is to raise our voice against discrimination in society on the basis of gender and to make people aware to promote the empowerment of the girl child.

School Activities, and More

To mark the all-important National Girl Child Day held every year, the students of St. Joseph’s Secondary Block organized several activities. The activities organized included solo and group dance, painting competition, speech, song, recitation, essay writing, quiz competition, and games. A play was performed by the students which gave a powerful message that a baby girl is one of the most precious gifts of God. The centers also held a rally in villages to take their messages to the interior.

A powerful rally was witnessed at the National Girl Child Day event in Krishnagiri. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was started in 2015 with the aim of empowering women. Various schemes were also run in this regard across the country. The government’s ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign is a very good step for girls. On the occasion of National Girl Child Day, different types of campaigns are run on issues like safety, education, sex ratio, health of girls.
