This day is associated with the country’s first woman Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Indira Gandhi took oath as Prime Minister on 24 January 1966. On this day, Indira Gandhi sat on the Prime Minister’s chair for the first time. This day is considered a symbol of women’s power and is celebrated as National Girl Child Day. This day touches many sensitive topics including female feticide and people’s perception towards girls.
