Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant played a quick knock against England. Rishabh Pant made the first 50 runs in 82 balls and after that, he started batting. Rishabh Pant completed his Test cricket third century by hitting a six off Joe Root.

However, Rishabh Pant was caught out in an attempt to increase the pace of runs after scoring a century. Rishabh scored 101 off 118 balls and was caught by Joe Root off James Anderson. India started from 24 runs without any loss in the morning and were very cautious but lost crucial wickets of Cheteshwar Pujara (17), captain Virat Kohli (zero) and Ajinkya Rahane (27) in the first session.

India thus added 56 runs in the first session and lost three wickets. Rohit, named ‘Hitman’ due to his tough shots, took a very cautious attitude and scored 49 runs off 144 balls. He showed his attitude only on a few occasions. The ball taking Stokes’ swing surprised him and hit the pad and it was clear in DRS that the ball was hitting the wicket.

Stokes also took Kohli’s wicket earlier. India added 73 runs in the second session and also lost the wicket of Ravichandran Ashwin (13) in addition to Rohit, who could not stay at the crease for long after being saved by DRS. He made a catch to Ollie Pope, standing at short midwicket off the ball of Jack Leach (2 for 43). Both England fast bowlers James Anderson (2 for 19) and Ben Stokes (2 for 33) impressed despite not getting help from the pitch.
