‘What else can be done to supply oxygen’

The court also asked central government advocate Monica Arora what were the industries whose oxygen supply could not be reduced.

Due to a shortage of life-saving gas at Delhi’s Gangaram Hospital, doctors have to reduce the amount of oxygen given to Kovid patients, the court said. The court also directed to provide information on what can be done to provide adequate oxygen to Kovid patients.

Ban on industrial use of oxygen: Centre’s reply

Answering the court’s questions, the Center said there was no shortage of oxygen supply in Delhi. The Center also said that except for some industries, other industrial uses of oxygen have been banned.

As per the information given to the court by the Ministry of Health, the demand for medical oxygen is estimated to have increased by 133 percent by April 20. The initial demand was estimated at 300 metric tonnes by the Delhi government. However, now the demand has reached 700 MT. The Center has also provided 1390 ventilators to Delhi government hospitals.

To increase the capacity of medical oxygen in Delhi, eight pressure swing adsorption (PSA) oxygen production plants will be set up from the PM Care Fund. With their help, oxygen production capacity can be increased to 14.4 metric tonnes, the Center said.
