Indian Coast Guard Day 2022 Theme, History, Significance, Importance, Celebration Activities: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is celebrating its Raising Day on 1 February. Today i.e. on February 01, it was established in the year 1977. ICG is an armed force of India, which protects maritime interests and enforces the law of the sea.

History

Indian Coast Guard works as an organization that works for multi-mission. It is also a collaboration with the Indian Navy, Customs Department, even state and general police forces. In 1977, the Union Cabinet approved the establishment of the Coast Guard with two ships and five patrol boats transferred from the Indian Navy. Thus, on February 01, 1978, the Indian Coast Guard emerged with a fleet of only seven ships to monitor India’s water and exclusive economic zone. On August 19, 1978, Morarji Desai, the then Prime Minister of India, formally inaugurated the Indian Coast Guard.

Significance, and Importance

The Indian Coast Guard currently had its own 5 air stations with 10 airfields, even in a total of 42 coastal line stations across the country. The coastline of India covers a total length of 7516.60 km of coastline and has become one of the busiest routes. Indian Coast Guard works as an organization that works for multi-mission. It is also a collaboration with the Indian Navy, Customs Department, even state and general police forces. The Indian Coast Guard is accordingly divided into zones, the North-West Zone which is located in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, the Eastern Zone located in Chennai, the North-East which is located in Kolkata, and the Andaman and Nicobar Zone.

Indian Coast Guard is always ready to defend India on Indian borders. The Indian Coast Guard is an armed force, which always guards the coasts. The Indian Coast Guard was established on 18 August 1978 by the Coast Guard Act, 1978. Laws related to the sea come under the Indian Coast Guard. The Indian Coast Guard is headed by the Director-General of the Indian Navy, an officer of the rank of Vice-Admiral. Indian Coast Guard already started its recruitment this year 2022. But to apply for this, the age of the candidates should be 18 years to 22 years and this age will be considered from the year 2000-2004 from August 1 to October.
