National Mathematics Day 2021 Date, Theme, History, Significance, Activities, Facts: National Mathematics Day is observed on 22 December every year. It is celebrated as the birthday of indian mathematics genius Srinivasa Ramanujan. The great Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan was born on this date in 1887. The day was announced by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during the opening ceremony of the 125th anniversary of the birth of Srinivasa Ramanujan at Madras University on 26 February 2012.

History

Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan was born on 22 December 1887 and died on 26 April 1920. Till this young age, he had given about 3500 mathematical formulas to the world which still scientists have not been able to prove completely. The main objective behind celebrating this special day is to raise awareness among people about the importance of mathematics for the development of humanity, and their discoveries namely Ramanujam Prime and Ramanujan Theta inspired further research on the subject.
