World Malaria Day is an international observance held annually on April 25th to raise awareness about malaria and to encourage efforts to control and prevent the spread of the disease. Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by the Plasmodium parasite and transmitted to humans through the bites of infected mosquitoes.
The day was established in 2007 by the World Health Assembly, the decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO). It provides an opportunity for governments, non-governmental organizations, and individuals to showcase their efforts in the fight against malaria.
The theme for World Malaria Day changes every year, and it typically focuses on a specific aspect of the disease, such as prevention, treatment, or research. The goal is to mobilize global resources and support to combat malaria and to ensure that progress is made towards achieving the WHO’s target of reducing malaria cases and deaths by at least 90% by 2030.
Activities on World Malaria Day include educational campaigns, community outreach, and advocacy efforts aimed at increasing awareness of the disease and its impact, as well as promoting the use of insecticide-treated bed nets, indoor residual spraying, and other effective malaria prevention measures.
